Job summary

HAWK3 Talent Solutions is recruiting a Muti Skilled Maintenance Technician for a busy manufacturing site in Tredegar, South Wales. The role is permanent with a £35,000 DOE salary, and shifts Monday to Friday 7:00am–4:45pm.

You will diagnose faults, carry out planned and predictive maintenance, and support improvements to keep production equipment safe, reliable and efficient. A 4-year indentured apprenticeship is essential; City & Guilds or ONC are desirable.

Qualifications

• 4-year indentured apprenticeship completed.
• City & Guilds qualification is desirable.
• ONC in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering desirable.
• Experience in a manufacturing environment is beneficial.

Are you a skilled Maintenance Engineer looking for your next challenge?

We're looking for an experienced and proactive Maintenance Engineer to join a busy manufacturing environment as part of a core maintenance team.

This is a hands-on role where no two days are the same. You'll play a key part in keeping production equipment running safely and efficiently, responding to breakdowns, completing planned preventative maintenance and getting involved in improvement projects that make a real difference to the operation.

If you're someone who enjoys fault-finding, problem-solving and getting to the root cause of issues - while also having the mechanical and electrical skills to get things back up and running - this could be an excellent opportunity for you.

The Role

Working as part of a close-knit maintenance team, you will:

• Respond quickly and effectively to equipment breakdowns.
• Carry out planned and preventative maintenance.
• Complete proactive and predictive maintenance activities.
• Support continuous improvement and engineering improvement projects.
• Work with the Maintenance Foreman to achieve maintenance objectives and minimise equipment downtime.
• Carry out maintenance tasks independently and use your initiative to resolve problems.
• Maintain and improve production equipment to ensure safe, reliable and efficient operation.
• Complete relevant health, safety and environmental maintenance activities.
• Support maintenance records and update relevant spreadsheets and systems.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for a well-rounded Maintenance Engineer with strong electrical and mechanical engineering skills.

Electrical skills

You should have experience with:

• Electrical fault finding and control panels.
• Motors and switchgear.
• Inverters.
• Electrical installation work.
• PLC fault finding and diagnostics, ideally including Siemens S5 and S7.
• Preventative and proactive electrical maintenance.

Mechanical skills

You'll also need a good understanding of mechanical maintenance, with experience in areas such as:

• Hydraulics.
• Pneumatics.
• Mechanical fault finding.
• Fabrication and welding.
• Press machinery.
• Injection moulding equipment.

Experience in these additional areas would be beneficial but is not essential.

Maintenance & Continuous Improvement

You'll have a good understanding of modern maintenance practices, including:

• Planned preventative maintenance (PPM).
• Predictive maintenance.
• Autonomous maintenance.
• Continuous improvement.
• Kaizen.
• Lean manufacturing principles.
• 5S and Six Sigma.

You'll also be comfortable using maintenance tools and applying structured problem-solving techniques to identify and resolve equipment issues.

Health, Safety & Compliance

Safety is at the heart of the role, so you'll need a good understanding of relevant HSE requirements and maintenance procedures.

Experience or knowledge of the following would be advantageous:

• Risk assessments.
• Permit-to-work systems.
• Fire alarm system checks.
• Legionella checks.
• Environmental responsibilities.
• Safe systems of work.
