Job summary

Carriera Limited in Oxford is seeking a highly skilled Multiskilled Maintenance Engineer with a strong electrical bias to maintain mechanical, electrical and building systems across laboratories and offices.

This hands-on role covers planned and reactive maintenance, fault diagnosis, and on‑call support, with responsibilities spanning HVAC, pumps, boilers, BMS, and compliance. You will work with internal teams and external contractors to keep the estate safe and reliable.

Qualifications

• Qualified in mechanical, electrical or facilities engineering (City & Guilds, NVQ) or equivalent.
• Experience maintaining mechanical and electrical plant in lab, office or data-centre environments.
• Strong problem-solving and fault-finding abilities.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned and reactive maintenance across mechanical, electrical, and building systems
• Diagnose faults and deliver effective repairs to plant and infrastructure
• Maintain HVAC, AHUs, pumps, boilers, and associated building services
• Ensure all works follow health, safety and compliance standards
• Monitor system performance and proactively identify issues
• Assist installation, commissioning, and modification of systems
• Collaborate with internal teams and external contractors
• Participate in on‑call rota for out-of-hours support
• Relevant qualification in Mechanical, Electrical or Facilities Engineering (City & Guilds, NVQ)
• Strong electrical bias with good knowledge of mechanical systems and fault finding
• Experience in planned and reactive maintenance within building services or similar
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to diagnose technical issues efficiently
• Ability to work independently and prioritise workload in a fast-paced environment
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Experience in laboratories, healthcare, data centres, or other high-spec environments
• Knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS)
• Experience working within compliance-led or regulated environments

Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled and versatile Multiskilled Maintenance Engineer with a strong electrical bias to join a fast-growing science and technology organisation in Oxford.

This is a hands-on engineering role focused on maintaining mechanical, electrical, and building systems across laboratory and office environments, ensuring safe, compliant, and reliable operation across the estate. Working schedule is Thursday to Monday.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative and reactive maintenance across mechanical, electrical, and building systems
• Diagnose faults and deliver effective repairs to plant, equipment, and infrastructure
• Maintain and optimise mechanical systems including HVAC, AHUs, pumps, boilers, and associated building services
• Ensure all works are carried out in line with health, safety, and compliance standards
• Monitor system performance and proactively identify potential issues
• Support installation, commissioning, and modification of systems and equipment
• Work collaboratively with internal teams and external contractors
