Job summary

Mitie is seeking a Building Services Engineer - Electrical Bias to provide high-quality electrical and building- services support across the HMRC estate in Worthing or Portsmouth. You will deliver planned maintenance and reactive works on electrical systems while ensuring safety, compliance, and seamless operation for HMRC facilities.

The successful candidate will have Level 3 electrical qualification, relevant experience, and the ability to obtain HMRC security clearance.

Qualifications

• Level 3 electrical qualification or equivalent.
• Time served electrical apprenticeship advantageous.
• Experience in building services maintenance in commercial/public sector.
• Capable of HMRC security clearance.
• Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Deliver PPM and reactive maintenance on electrical systems (lighting, boards, emergency lighting, small power).
• Fault finding, testing, inspection, and repairs to electrical infrastructure.
• Support general building services tasks as required.
• Ensure compliance with regulations, SLAs and KPIs.
• Complete job reports and asset updates in Mitie systems.
• Communicate with client and site teams to minimise disruption.
• Monitor energy performance and identify improvement opportunities.
• Participate in a 1 in 3 on-call rota with a company pool vehicle.

Role Responsibilities

• Deliver planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive works on electrical systems, including lighting, distribution boards, emergency lighting, and small power.
• Carry out fault‑finding, testing, inspection, and repairs to electrical infrastructure in accordance with regulations.
• Support general building services operations, assisting with mechanical or fabric tasks when required.
• Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements, industry standards, and contractual SLAs and KPIs.
• Complete job reports, asset updates, and documentation using Mitie systems in a clear and timely manner.
• Communicate effectively with the client and site teams, ensuring minimal disruption to HMRC operations.
• Monitor building performance and highlight opportunities for energy efficiency or system improvements.
• Participate in a 1 in 3 on‑call rota with a company pool vehicle provided

Required Qualifications

• Level 3 electrical qualification (NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent).
• A time served electrical apprenticeship would be advantageous
• C&G 2391 testing and inspection is a desirable qualification.
• LV/HV AP tickets would be desirable (once you have site familiarisation you will be put through these courses)
• Experience in building services maintenance within commercial or public‑sector environments.
• Strong diagnostic and problem‑solving skills across electrical systems.
• Ability to work independently across a busy, operationally sensitive site.
• Capability to pass HMRC security clearance (mandatory).
