Job summary

Major Recruitment is sourcing an Electrical Bias Maintenance Engineer for a fast-paced包装 manufacturer in Leeds. You will act as a hands-on shift engineer, driving machinery performance and championing continuous improvement across the site.

Role involves reactive and preventive maintenance, fault finding on PLCs, and close collaboration with the Production Line Manager to improve efficiency and safety. On-site canteen and progression opportunities are available.

Qualifications

  • Minimum NVQ Level 3 in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 17th/18th edition wiring regulations desirable.
  • Experience in electrical or mechanical maintenance within manufacturing.
  • Excellent fault-finding and repair skills.
  • Strong mechanical comprehension and PLC fault-finding ability.
  • Driving licence and own transport.

Responsibilities

  • Provide reactive maintenance support to the production operation.
  • Carry out preventive maintenance on production lines and equipment.
  • Fault-find and repair electrical and mechanical issues to maximise uptime.
  • Implement improvement actions to reduce downtime and losses.
  • Ensure safety, quality and regulatory compliance on site.
  • Collaborate with production teams to optimise performance.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled Electrical Bias Maintenance Engineer to join a fast‑paced, high‑volume manufacturing operation. The role is hands‑on, technically engaging and involves acting as a key engineering contact on shift, driving machinery performance, supporting production and championing continuous improvement across the site.

Maintenance Engineer – Day‑to‑Day Duties
  • Provide reactive maintenance support to the production operation.
  • Assess, identify, modify and perform preventive and scheduled maintenance, and manage modifications or failures/breakdowns on production and packaging machines/lines (mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical).
  • Engineer corrective actions to support the Production Line Manager ensuring compliance with legislation and quality standards.
  • Identify and implement plans to eliminate unnecessary losses such as cost, waste and inefficiencies.
  • Undertake fault finding, problem solving and planned preventive maintenance on plant and equipment to maximise reliability and performance.
  • Ensure compliance with quality and safety standards and controls.
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for improvements to promote health & safety and operational efficiency.
  • Attend and resolve breakdowns to ensure minimum downtime.
  • Improve equipment safety, efficiency, changeovers and minimise downtime.
  • Undertake improvement projects to increase machine efficiencies and output.
  • Report on potential breakdowns, maintenance issues, equipment performance and plant data.
  • Install and commission new equipment when required.
  • Work with PLCs to fault‑find and repair production equipment.
  • Carry out checks and inspections of plant, machinery and equipment to maximise utilisation and decrease cycle times.
  • Work closely with the production team and gain in‑depth knowledge of the current production facility.
  • Implement and execute the factory asset maintenance programme to eliminate unplanned stops and optimise maintenance cost.
  • Carry out proactive and reactive electrical and mechanical maintenance on the company's state‑of‑the‑art production lines.
Health, Safety & Compliance
  • Adhere to and promote safe working practices.
  • Identify and report hazards to maintain a safe environment.
  • Accurately report incidents, near‑misses and maintenance issues.
  • Maintain high standards of hygiene and housekeeping.
Skills & Experience
  • Minimum NVQ level3 (or equivalent) in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or relevant apprenticeship.
  • Knowledge of 17th/18th edition wiring regulations desirable.
  • Experience in electrical or mechanical maintenance within a manufacturing industry.
  • Excellent fault‑finding and repair skills.
  • Strong mechanical comprehension.
  • Working knowledge of PLC fault‑finding and repair; programming skills a plus.
  • Experience with modern manufacturing techniques such as 5S, Lean and TPM ideal.
  • Analytical mindset with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with planned and preventive maintenance schedules in a continuous improvement environment.
  • Learning‑oriented, work ethic and can‑do attitude.
  • Driving licence and own transport.
