Job summary

Albert Bartlett is recruiting a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer (Electrical/Mechanical Bias) to maintain PLC-controlled packaging and production lines at our Boston site, part of a leading UK FMCG group. You will perform PPM and reactive maintenance, fault-find on PLCs, motors and drives, support continuous improvement / lean initiatives, and help improve OEE.

The shift is 4 days on, 4 days off (06:00–18:00) with a £20.76 hourly rate.

Qualifications

• Experience as a maintenance/equipment engineer in FMCG/food manufacturing.
• Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills.
• Knowledge of PLC systems (Allen Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi) desirable.
• Experience with conveyors, packaging machinery, hydraulics, pneumatics, and drives.
• Understanding of PPM systems and Lean/TPM methodologies.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive/breakdown maintenance.
• Diagnose faults on PLC-controlled machinery, conveyors, packaging lines, and production equipment.
• Perform electrical fault finding (motors, drives, sensors, control panels) and mechanical repairs.
• Reduce downtime through troubleshooting and root cause analysis (RCA).
• Support continuous improvement, lean manufacturing, and CI initiatives.
• Assist with installation, commissioning, and upgrading of new equipment and machinery.
• Maintain CMMS / maintenance records, logs, and KPI reporting.

Albert Bartlett is a leading UK food manufacturing business, established in 1948 and recognised as a trusted household brand in fresh and processed potato products. We are continuing to invest in our engineering capability across our Boston sites and are looking to recruit Multi-Skilled Engineers (Electrical Bias / Mechanical Bias) to support both our Fresh manufacturing operations.

The Role - Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer

This is a hands-on maintenance engineering role within a fast-paced food manufacturing / FMCG production environment , responsible for ensuring maximum equipment uptime, reliability, and performance .

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive/breakdown maintenance
• Diagnose faults on PLC-controlled machinery, conveyors, packaging lines, and production equipment
• Perform electrical fault finding (motors, drives, sensors, control panels) and mechanical repairs
• Reduce downtime through efficient troubleshooting and root cause analysis (RCA)
• Support continuous improvement, lean manufacturing, and CI initiatives
• Assist with installation, commissioning, and upgrading of new equipment and machinery
• Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, HACCP, Food Safety, and Engineering Standards
• Maintain accurate CMMS / maintenance records, job logs, and KPI reporting
• Work collaboratively with production and operations teams to improve OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness)

About You - Skills & Experience

• Proven experience as a Multi-Skilled Engineer / Maintenance Engineer / Shift Engineer
• Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills
• Background within FMCG, food manufacturing, packaging, or automated production environments
• Knowledge of PLC systems (Allen Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi - desirable)
• Experience with conveyors, packaging machinery, hydraulics, pneumatics, and drives
• Understanding of PPM systems and continuous improvement / Lean / TPM methodologies
• Engineering qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 3 / HNC / HND in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering )
• Proactive, team-oriented mindset with strong problem-solving abilities
• Shift Pattern - 4 days on, 4 days off working 06:00hrs to 18:00hrs
