Job summary

HCL, a leading contract caterer, is seeking a Group Chef to oversee mobile kitchens across St Albans, Potters Bar and Borehamwood. The role focuses on staffing, compliance with food safety standards and delivering high-quality meals for schools and sites.

The Group Chef will manage a mobile workforce, coordinate rotas, monitor costs, and support site engagement while complying with H&S and allergen controls. A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel are essential.

Qualifications

• Experienced Chef or Kitchen Manager (multi-site/mobile preferred).
• Strong leadership and team management skills.
• Solid knowledge of food safety, H&S, and allergens.
• Organised, adaptable, and able to work across multiple locations.
• Passionate about food quality and customer service.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel.

Responsibilities

• Workforce Planning & Deployment: plan rotas, deploy a mobile catering team across sites.
• People Management: lead, support and develop a mobile workforce with HR compliance.
• Operational Support: maintain food quality, monitor cost and waste, support site activities.
• Compliance & Safety: ensure food safety, health & safety, allergen management.
• Recruitment & Retention: recruit and retain mobile team members, assist with site transitions.
• Assist with new site set-ups and systems implementation.
