The post holder will be expected to demonstrate a medium level of skill and expertise in some areas of MR scanning (such as neuro, MSK, and other body scans). They will initiate and/or complete tasks to support or improve patient care and service provision. They will support and participate in extended practice for radiographers. The role requires the post-holder to work closely with the Band 7 MRI radiographers.
Main duties of the job
The new band 6 post holder must demonstrate an understanding of the organisational structure and working practices of the organisation. This will inform the provision of high-quality MR services and relevant policies.
Needs to have a high degree of personal and professional autonomy with the ability to make sound clinical judgments and critical decisions regarding patient welfare.
The post holder should have a working knowledge guided by broad professional/clinical policies and standards, e.g., those set by the MHRA, College and Society of Radiographers, HCPC, and NICE.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Assess and clinically authorize referrals to radiology in line with MHRA and NICE guidelines, ensuring patient safety. The lead radiographer will act as an Operator and Practitioner, including justification of imaging requests and adherence to departmental protocols.
Ensure completion of MR safety questionnaires before scanning, follow up on contraindications, and liaise with the team and patient regarding absolute contraindications.
Expedite reporting of images with abnormalities affecting patient management.
Accept clinical responsibility for a caseload of patients, organizing effectively with regard to priorities and resources.
Liaise with referrers for clarification on imaging requests.
Maintain high standards of clinical care, monitor and ensure quality of care delivered by staff.
Advise patients on their referrals and hospital attendance, including suitability, PALS, interpretation services, hospital transport, etc.
Act in the best interests of patients during scans, ensuring informed consent and working within legal frameworks for capacity issues.
Match clinical indications to departmental protocols and advise on appropriate imaging series.
Liaise with child protection and other relevant teams regarding patient safety.
Operate advanced radiological software requiring manual dexterity and coordination.
Review images to ensure completeness and accuracy, administering contrast if needed.
Promote reflective practice based on knowledge and skills.
Ensure timely and accurate presentation of images for reporting, recognizing abnormalities and acting accordingly.
Ensure patient care, comfort, and well-being during examinations.
Use evidence-based practices to enhance MR services.
Minimize manual handling risks using safe practices.
