Job summary

Wavin, part of Orbia’s Building & Infrastructure business, seeks an experienced bench fitter or machinist to perform day-to-day toolmaking, maintenance, and toolroom operations in the UK. The role includes mentoring apprentices, implementing new methods, and upholding high H&S standards.

The ideal candidate will handle manual machining tools and grinders, demonstrate strong time management, and contribute to continuous improvement across extrusion and mould tooling processes.

Qualifications

• Experienced bench fitter or machinist with experience undertaking form changes, bench fitting, mechanical machining of parts and cleaning and polishing of tooling equipment.
• Ability to operate toolroom equipment including manual machining tools, manual lathe, manual miller, surface grinders, and cylindrical grinders.
• Excellent time management skills with flexibility to meet business needs.
• A team player with a strong work ethic.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work on own initiative and unsupervised at times.
• Attention to detail with the ability to problem solve.
• Involvement in continuous improvement projects and ability to introduce new working methods.

Responsibilities

• Carryout day to day toolmaking activities (tooling service, tooling audits, bench working and manual machining).
• Carryout proactive work including planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and improvement work on extrusion and mould tools.
• Contribute to implementing new working methods and actively participate in continuous improvement.
• Maintain maintenance monitoring.
• Operate in line with Wavin H&S Standards and Safe Working Practices.
• Mentor Apprentices within the Toolroom and engineering department.

Key Responsibilities

The main duties and responsibilities of the role are to:

• Carryout day to day toolmaking activities (including tooling service, tooling audits, bench working and manual machining), maintaining tooling availability.
• Carryout proactive work including planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and improvement work on extrusion and mould tools.
• Contribute to implementing new working methods and actively participate in continuous improvement.
• Maintain maintenance monitoring.
• Operate in line with all Wavin H&S Standards. To implement and adhere to safe working practices in accordance with legislation and the Wavin WorkSafe programme.
• Mentor Apprentices within the Toolroom and engineering department.

The Profile
