Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. The successful candidate is expected to report to Concord, NC three times per week at minimum. Due to support for live race events during weekends, a flexible schedule is required.

The Role
We are seeking a Motorsports Sportscar Data Analyst to apply data science and modeling techniques to develop and refine race strategy tools, facilitating insightful pre-race planning and real-time strategy adjustments during live race events.

What You’ll Do

1. Refine existing AI/ML models for Sportscars, updating Python code and reimagining approaches as needed.
2. Develop platforms for Monte Carlo simulations.
3. Create tire degradation models, refining parameters for accurate predictions.
4. Design visualizations to effectively communicate insights, prototyping and collaborating with IT for production.
5. Verify and enhance race strategy tools and models, collaborating with IMSA and WEC teams.
6. Address vehicle pace from track migration, traffic, and energy strategies.
7. Predict pace variations to inform session planning and strategy.
8. Collaborate with GM motorsports teams to develop and support race strategy tools.
9. Co-develop race strategy software with data science and IT teams.
10. Apply analysis techniques across different racing series for process validation and model refinement.

What You’ll Need (Required Qualifications)

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in top-level motorsports series (e.g., NASCAR, IMSA, F1, IndyCar, WEC).
• Experience developing or utilizing strategy tools in live race environments.
• Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or similar programming languages.
• Knowledge of AI/ML modeling techniques.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to navigate team and organizational politics.
• Ability to travel within the US (~10%).

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in a related quantitative field.
• Experience in tire modeling and simulation workflows.
• Familiarity with machine learning libraries and big data tools (Hadoop, Spark, SQL, NoSQL).
