Job Description

The Motorsports Sportscar Data Analyst will apply data science and modeling techniques to develop race strategy tools for pre-race planning and live race analysis. The role involves refining AI/ML models, developing simulation platforms, creating tire degradation models, and collaborating with technical teams across GM motorsports series to optimize race strategies.

Responsibilities

1. Refine existing AI/ML models and reimagine application where necessary.
2. Develop platforms for Monte Carlo simulations.
3. Create and refine tire degradation models for accurate predictions.
4. Design visualizations to convey insights effectively and collaborate on their development.
5. Verify and improve race strategy tools and models, collaborating with IMSA and WEC teams.
6. Analyze vehicle pace, track migration, traffic, energy strategies, and tire/fuel effects.
7. Predict in-race and session-to-session pace variations to inform strategies.
8. Work with GM teams to develop and support race strategy tools and provide analytical guidance.
9. Co-develop race strategy software with data science and IT teams.
10. Apply analysis techniques across different racing series to validate and refine models.
11. Transfer learning approaches between series.

Qualifications

Required:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in top-level motorsports series with 2+ years developing strategy tools.
• Knowledge of motorsports race strategy and analysis during live events.
• Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or similar programming languages.
• Familiarity with AI/ML modeling techniques.
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, with a detail-oriented approach.
• Ability to travel within the US approximately 10% of the time.

Preferred:

• Master’s degree in a quantitative field.
• Experience in tire modeling and simulation workflows.
• Knowledge of machine learning libraries and big data tools.

Additional Information

Work is hybrid, requiring reporting to Concord, NC three times per week, with flexibility for weekend events. The role may be eligible for relocation benefits.
