Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. The successful candidate is expected to report to Concord, NC three times per week, with flexibility for weekend race events.

The Role
Seeking a Motorsports Sportscar Data Analyst to develop race strategy tools using data science and modeling techniques, enabling insightful pre-race planning and real-time strategy adjustments during live events.

What You’ll Do

1. Refine existing AI/ML models for Sportscar applications, updating Python code and reimagining models as needed.
2. Develop a platform for Monte Carlo simulations.
3. Create tire degradation models with accurate predictive parameters.
4. Design visualizations to effectively convey insights, collaborating with IT and software teams for implementation.
5. Use race strategy tools and models to verify accuracy and identify improvements, working with IMSA and WEC teams.
6. Analyze vehicle pace considering track migration, traffic, energy strategies, and tire/fuel effects.
7. Predict in-race and session-to-session pace variations for strategic planning.
8. Collaborate across GM and motorsports teams to develop and support race strategy tools.
9. Co-develop production race strategy software with data science and IT teams.
10. Apply analysis techniques across different racing series for process validation and model refinement.

Additional Job Description

What You’ll Need (Required Qualifications)

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, or related field.
• 5+ years in top-level motorsports series (e.g., NASCAR, IMSA, F1, IndyCar, WEC) with 2+ years developing or using strategy tools.
• Deep knowledge of motorsports race strategy and analysis during live events.
• Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or similar languages.
• Familiarity with AI/ML techniques and industry applications.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and forward-thinking mentality.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, relationship building, patience, and mentoring ability.
• This role may offer relocation benefits and requires 10% travel within the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in a quantitative field.
• Experience in tire modeling, testing, and validation.
• Knowledge of simulation workflows in professional motorsports.
• Experience with machine learning libraries and big data tools (Hadoop, Spark, SQL, NoSQL).
