Job summary

Williams F1 Team is seeking a Control Systems Engineer to join the Controls team at Grove, focusing on gearbox and clutch control, calibration and dyno development. You will calibrate, simulate and tune controls using MATLAB/Simulink and Python, and integrate vehicle models so the dyno mirrors track behaviour.

This rare gearbox project is long-term, with a small team and opportunities to own the controls as the programme advances.

Qualifications

• Degree in electrical, control systems, automotive, mechanical, software or a related engineering discipline.
• At least 5 years in controls engineering, ideally in motorsport or high-performance automotive.
• Strong MATLAB and Simulink experience with confident programming and controls ability.
• Good understanding of embedded real-time code targeting an ECU.
• Able to read and trace through control code and state flows.

Responsibilities

• Calibrate and develop the gearbox and clutch control system with reliable, repeatable gear shifts.
• Analyse data from dyno and car runs to find root causes and apply learnings in calibrations.
• Learn, use and help develop the dyno control system, integrating vehicle models so the dyno reflects track behavior.
• Build control simulations and tooling, mainly in MATLAB, Simulink and Python.
• Work within the ECU code and toolchain to optimise shifting in all situations.
• Support troubleshooting on the dyno and car, diagnosing issues quickly with colleagues.
• Document designs, test protocols and results for accuracy and traceability.
