Job summary

Williams F1 Team is seeking a Control Systems Engineer to join the Controls group at Grove. You will work on gearbox and clutch control systems, focusing on dyno-based development and calibration to achieve reliable gear shifts.

You will grow into owning gearbox controls as the transmission program advances. As part of a small team, you will tune embedded real-time ECU code, build simulations in MATLAB/Simulink and Python, and collaborate with Vehicle Dynamics, Powertrain and Electronics to

Qualifications

Degree in electrical, control systems, automotive, mechanical, software or related engineering discipline.
5+ years in controls engineering, ideally motorsport or high-performance automotive backgrounds.
Strong MATLAB and Simulink experience with own programming and controls ability.
Good understanding of embedded, real-time code targeting an ECU.
Able to read and trace control code and state flows to spot advantages and risks.
Transmission controls experience preferred; dyno knowledge a close second.

Responsibilities

Calibrate and develop the gearbox and clutch control system for reliable, repeatable gear shifts and clutch response.
Analyze dyno and car data to identify root causes of shift performance and reliability issues; apply learnings in calibrations.
Develop and learn the dyno control system, integrating vehicle models so the dyno mirrors on-track behavior.
Build control simulations and tooling, mainly in MATLAB, Simulink and Python.
Work within the ECU code and toolchain to optimize shift performance.
Assist troubleshooting on dyno and car; collaborate with colleagues to fix issues.
Document designs, test protocols and results to ensure accuracy and traceability.
