Job summary

Williams Racing is seeking a Control Systems Engineer to join the Controls team at Grove, focusing on gearbox and clutch control systems. The role involves calibrating, developing and validating the dyno model to reproduce on-track behavior, and growing into ownership of gearbox controls with calibration, development, and tooling.

You’ll work in an embedded real-time ECU context, collaborating with Vehicle Dynamics, Powertrain and Electronics to deliver reliable shifts and robust control

Qualifications

• Degree in electrical, controls, automotive, mechanical, software or related engineering discipline.
• At least 5 years in controls engineering, ideally motorsport or high-performance automotive.
• Strong MATLAB and Simulink experience with capable programming and controls ability.

Responsibilities

• Calibrate and develop the gearbox and clutch control system, focusing on reliable, repeatable gear shifts and clutch response.
• Analyse dyno and vehicle data to identify root causes and apply learnings to calibrations and control tuning.
• Learn, use and help develop the dyno control system, incorporating vehicle models so the dyno reflects track behavior.
• Build control simulations and tooling, mainly in MATLAB, Simulink and Python.
• Work within the ECU code and toolchain to optimize shift performance for each situation.
• Document designs, test protocols and results for traceability.
