Job summary

ASK Motors in Walsall is seeking a full-time Motor Mechanic to service, diagnose, and repair a range of vehicles to safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Strong skills in vehicle maintenance and servicing; diagnose and repair common mechanical/electrical issues.
• Experience in maintenance and repair of engine, steering, suspension, brakes, and drivetrain components.
• Ability to inspect, adjust, and repair steering and safety-critical systems to standards.
• Customer service skills to communicate clearly and support trust and transparency.
• Vocational qualification or apprenticeship in Motor Vehicle Engineering; NVQ/City & Guilds advantageous.
• Familiarity with diagnostic tools, service manuals, and digital service platforms; accuracy matters.

Responsibilities

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Motor Mechanic role based at ASK Motors in Walsall. The Motor Mechanic will carry out routine servicing, diagnostics, and repairs on a range of vehicles, ensuring all work meets safety and quality standards. Day-to-day responsibilities include inspecting vehicles, identifying mechanical faults, performing maintenance on engines, steering, suspension, brakes, and other key systems, and completing repair documentation accurately. The role involves working with service advisors and other team members to plan work, meet deadlines, and support efficient workshop operations. The Motor Mechanic will also interact with customers as needed to explain work carried out and contribute to a positive service experience.

Qualifications

• Strong skills in Vehicle Maintenance and Motor Vehicle servicing, with the ability to diagnose and repair common mechanical and electrical issues.
• Practical experience in Maintenance & Repair of core systems, including engine, steering, suspension, braking, and drivetrain components.
• Ability to inspect, adjust, and repair Steering and related safety-critical systems to manufacturer and industry standards.
• Customer Service skills to communicate clearly, explain technical issues in accessible terms, and support a trusted, transparent experience.
• Relevant vocational qualification or apprenticeship in Motor Vehicle Engineering or a related field; certification such as NVQ/City & Guilds is advantageous.
• Familiarity with diagnostic tools, service manuals, and digital service platforms, with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability to work safely in a busy workshop environment, manage workload efficiently, and collaborate effectively with colleagues.
• Previous experience in a dealership or independent workshop setting is preferred but not essential for applicants with strong practical skills.
