Mortuary Technician Apprentice Progress Coach

Are you experienced in mortuary services, anatomical pathology, post-mortem services or a related healthcare science environment - and interested in helping others take their first steps into this specialist profession? We are creating a new role to support the growth of our Mortuary Technician apprenticeship provision, offering the right person the chance to share their expertise, support apprentices in the workplace and contribute to the development of the next generation of skilled mortuary professionals.

As a Mortuary Technician Apprentice Progress Coach, you will work closely with apprentices, employers and college colleagues to help learners stay motivated, make strong progress and feel supported throughout their apprenticeship journey. This is not a formal teaching delivery role; instead, you will use your sector knowledge to guide apprentices through regular progress reviews, identify any barriers to learning, support clear action planning and help learners prepare confidently for successful completion and End Point Assessment.

This flexible, part-time role could suit someone currently working in the sector who wants to take on a meaningful education-focused opportunity alongside existing commitments. It may also appeal to experienced practitioners, supervisors, mentors or managers who enjoy supporting others, sharing professional insight and making a difference beyond their own workplace.

You do not need previous teaching, assessing or apprenticeship experience to apply. We will provide training, guidance and ongoing support, making this an excellent first step for someone who is curious about a career in further education, apprenticeships or work-based learning and wants to build confidence in an education setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct planned apprentice review meetings with learners and employers.
• Monitor apprentice progress against apprenticeship milestones and individual learning plans.
• Support apprentices to remain on track with their programme and end-point assessment preparation.
• Work closely with employers, mentors, and curriculum staff to identify support needs and celebrate achievements.
• Record review outcomes accurately using college systems and documentation.
• Encourage apprentice engagement, wellbeing, and professional development.
• Ensure apprentices understand programme requirements, off-the-job training expectations, and progress targets.
• Identify concerns or barriers to progress and work collaboratively to address them.

What We're Looking For

We would welcome applications from individuals who:

• Have experience working within a mortuary, anatomical pathology, post-mortem services, or related healthcare science environment.
• Understand the role and responsibilities of Mortuary Technicians and the wider sector.
• Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Are organised and able to manage documentation accurately.
• Enjoy supporting and developing others.
• Can build positive relationships with apprentices and employers.
• Are confident, or willing to develop confidence, using digital services such as Microsoft Teams, Office 365, Outlook, Word, Excel and online systems to communicate, record progress and support apprentices effectively.
• Experience mentoring, supervising, coaching, or supporting colleagues or trainees.
• Understanding of apprenticeships, vocational qualifications, or work-based learning (training will be provided if not).
