As a MongoDB Database Administrator, you will work in project teams designing, building, and maintaining MongoDB databases and infrastructure to deliver strong business solutions. You will be involved from design and build to supporting both non-production and production environments. We promote a learning culture at NBS, encouraging ongoing development and skill enhancement in relevant technologies. You will also have opportunities to join our communities to share ideas and collaborate with professional engineers.

We are open to flexible working arrangements to support your performance.

Nationwide offers hybrid working where possible, balancing in-office collaboration with home working. You will spend at least two days per week, or 40% of your time if part-time, based at our London, Swindon, Northampton, or Bournemouth offices. Further details will be provided if your application is successful. Additionally, candidates outside Swindon and London are required to attend the office once a month for workshops and meetings.

What you’ll be doing

You will work within delivery teams, leveraging your technical leadership and SME knowledge to advise, build systems, and resolve issues within the MongoDB space. You will guide less experienced engineers and help create fit-for-purpose designs and solutions. On-call work may be required occasionally.

About you

You should have a proven track record in designing, building, and implementing MongoDB solutions, with in-depth knowledge of:

• Linux operating systems
• MongoDB OpsManager for backups and deployments
• MongoDB architecture, replication, and sharding
• Handling JSON document data, exporting/importing documents
• Troubleshooting, performance tuning, and index optimization within MongoDB
• Working across multiple projects and collaborating in teams
• Sharing expertise with emerging talent
• Building relationships with technical and business stakeholders
• Learning new technologies quickly

Knowledge and experience in at least three of the following areas are desirable:

• Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Ansible)
• LDAP integration
• Red Hat OpenShift
• Kafka
• Network and infrastructure security
• Agile methodologies and Scrum
• Regulatory environments (PCI, GDPR)
• Working with third parties/suppliers
