Job summary

University of Sheffield, based in Sheffield, seeks a skilled researcher to support the NEOF Genomics Facility. The role focuses on delivering regular bioinformatics training, developing new modules, assisting users with data analyses and contributing to research projects in environmental omics and population genetics.

Applicants should hold a PhD in molecular ecology or evolutionary genetics, with programming skills (Linux, R, Python or Perl) and experience in HPC environments.

Qualifications

• PhD in molecular ecology or evolutionary genetics, or equivalent postdoctoral experience.
• Experience with metabarcoding, population genetics, or related analyses.
• Programming skills in Linux, R, Python or Perl and HPC cluster usage.
• Ability to develop and deliver training in genomic data analysis.
• Strong analytical and data interpretation skills.

Responsibilities

• Deliver online and in-person training courses in bioinformatics.
• Develop new training modules for NEOF users.
• Assist users with genomic data analyses.
• Produce user-friendly protocols and pipelines for staff and users.
• Maintain databases for managing NEOF and Genomics Facility data.
• Keep tools up-to-date with latest methods and analyses.
• Contribute to research projects and publications.
• Support facility administration in the HPC environment.
