Job summary

Randstad Sourceright is recruiting for a Molecular Biology Lab Scientist to join a global manufacturing company on a 12‑month, fully onsite contract in Waltham on the Wolds. The role centers on metagenomics workflows, DNA/RNA extraction, PCR and NGS library prep to generate high‑quality data.

The successful candidate will join a team of scientists, with responsibilities spanning data generation, ELN maintenance and collaboration with internal stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biology, Biochemistry or related field.
• Experience with Next Generation Sequencing technologies is desirable.
• Experience applying bioscience techniques to generate high-quality data for research projects.
• Safe handling and processing of biological samples.

Responsibilities

• Perform established sample preparation, extraction and molecular biology methodologies to deliver high-quality data.
• Maintain laboratory equipment following established practices.
• Validate new methodologies and support development and troubleshooting of experimental techniques.
• Maintain electronic lab notebooks in accordance with guidelines.
• Provide updates and present data to internal stakeholders through reports or presentations.
• Train and support other Laboratory Scientists on routine methodologies.
• Adhere to QSHE standards and support lab initiatives.

Job title: Molecular Biology Lab Scientist

Location: Waltham on the Wolds

Shift Pattern: Monday - Friday Onsite (8 hour day with a 30 minute unpaid lunch break)

Randstad Sourceright, a leading provider of RPO & MSP Recruitment Services are currently recruiting for a Molecular Biology Lab Scientist on behalf of a global manufacturing company. This is an initial 12 Month contract starting asap. This position is fully onsite Monday - Friday in Waltham on the Wolds.

The successful Scientist will join the Team of Scientists and help the mix pipeline using Established methods. Previous work experience within a Research Lab is desirable but not essential. We will also consider University graduates who have this experience throughout their studies.

Key Responsibilities:

• Metagenomics execution and delivery: Perform established sample preparation, extraction and molecular biology methodologies (e.g. DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, NGS library prep) to deliver high-quality data supporting metagenomics project objectives.
• Maintain key laboratory equipment, following established laboratory practices.
• Assist with validating new methodologies and support the development, refinement, and troubleshooting of experimental techniques under the guidance of senior team members.
• Maintain detailed and accurate electronic lab notebooks (ELN) in accordance with laboratory guidelines.
• Provide updates and present data to internal stakeholders through written reports or presentations.
• Provide training and support to other Laboratory Scientists on routine methodologies.
• Adhere to quality, environmental, health, and safety requirements, supporting the implementation and maintenance of key lab initiatives.

Key Skills/ Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree (BSc) in Molecular Biology, Biology, Biochemistry or a related scientific discipline.
• Experience with Next Generation Sequencing technologies is highly desirable.
• Proven experience in applying a variety of bioscience techniques to generate high-quality data for research projects e.g. DNA extraction, PCR cell culture, cell-based assays, immunoassays, microbiology.
• Demonstrated comfort and experience in the safe handling and processing of biological samples.
• Proven experience working in a laboratory setting; prior experience in a research and development environment is highly desirable.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, efficiently prioritising tasks to meet deadlines.
• Experience in sourcing and ordering laboratory consumables required for project execution.
• Experience working in compliance with QSHE standards, including conducting risk assessments, SOP writing and routine equipment maintenance.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with internal stakeholders, external collaborators and visitors.
• High attention to detail in maintaining accurate records of experimental work and sample tracking in compliance with organisational guidelines.
• Proficient in data collation, processing and presentation, with experience using software such as Excel, GraphPad Prism and R for data handling and analysis.
• Experience working with a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), with the ability to provide input into system improvements to enhance laboratory efficiency and data management is desirable.
