Job description

Simulation & Modelling Engineer
Your responsibilities will include:
  • Developing mathematical and physics-based models of complex engineering systems.
  • Building simulation environments using MATLAB and Simulink.
  • Analysing system behaviour and performance through modelling and simulation.
  • Supporting model-based systems engineering (MBSE) activities throughout the engineering lifecycle.
  • Developing verification and validation strategies for simulation models.
  • Creating test environments and supporting system integration activities.
  • Participating in technical design reviews and collaborative problem-solving sessions.
  • Reviewing and improving simulation code to ensure quality and performance.
  • Working alongside multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative solutions for complex technical challenges.
About You

We’re looking for intellectually curious engineers and scientists who enjoy analytical problem solving and applying first-principles thinking to real-world systems. You'll ideally have:

  • A PhD (or be close to completing one) in Physics, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, Computational Science, Electronics or another quantitative discipline.
  • Experience developing mathematical or physics-based models.
  • Strong MATLAB and Simulink programming skills.
  • Knowledge of systems engineering principles and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
  • Experience developing simulation or modelling tools for complex systems.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.

Experience in any of the following would be advantageous: Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) simulation. Digital Signal Processing (DSP). Radar or sensor modelling. Control systems. Embedded systems. Simulink HDL Coder or Embedded Coder. Scientific computing. Numerical methods. Defence, aerospace, automotive or other highly regulated engineering sectors.

Why Apply?

This role offers an excellent opportunity to transition from academic research into industry while continuing to work on technically challenging, research-led projects.

You’ll benefit from:
  • Working on genuinely novel engineering challenges with real-world impact.
  • Exposure to a wide variety of research programmes rather than a single product.
  • Collaboration with leading scientists, mathematicians and engineers.
  • Opportunities to broaden your technical expertise across multiple disciplines.
  • A supportive, low-hierarchy engineering culture where innovation is encouraged.
  • Excellent professional development and long-term career progression.
Benefits
  • Competitive salary with annual performance-related bonus.
  • Employer pension contribution.
  • Private medical insurance for you and your family.
  • Life assurance.
  • Generous annual leave plus bank holidays.
  • Enhanced family-friendly policies.
  • Electric vehicle and cycle-to-work schemes.
  • Access to on-site gym, sports clubs and wellbeing initiatives.
  • Modern laboratories and advanced engineering facilities.
  • Collaborative, research-driven working environment.

Please note: Due to the nature of the work, applicants must be eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance and be sole British.
