Job summary

MBDA is seeking a Warheads Engineer within the Complex Warhead Centre of Excellence in Bolton. You will apply a spectrum of modelling tools to analyse concepts, evolve designs and assess performance for diverse warhead programmes across Europe, delivering on time and within cost.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct modelling to analyse concepts, evolve designs and assess performance across a varied portfolio
  • Support design and development programmes with a multi‑disciplinary team in the UK and Europe
  • Define, manage and deliver work packages and subcontracts; report progress, scheduling and cost control
  • Manage risk, import/export controls and logistics in collaboration with design and trials teams
  • Inform design evolution and trial configuration to produce performance predictions

Job description

A great opportunity has arisen in the Complex Warhead Centre of Excellence (CW CofEx) for a Warheads Engineer to work in the Warhead Modelling & Simulation Group.

Salary: Up to £60,000 depending on experience

Dynamic (hybrid) working: 3-4 days per week on-site due to workload classification

Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship

Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

The opportunity

Within this role you will utilise a spectrum of modelling and engineering tools to conduct concept analysis, design evolution and performance assessment across a varied portfolio. This role will support design and development programmes working with a multi-disciplined team in UK and France, customers, partners and suppliers across Europe, and external teams within MBDA.

On a day to day basis you will support the business winning and delivering Complex Warhead programmes and delegated work packages, including key projects and research tasks. You’ll conduct modelling using a varied toolset to analyse concepts, evolve designs, and produce performance assessments whilst defining, handling and delivering work packages and subcontracts.

Along with this you’ll be involved in progress reporting, scheduling, cost control, risk management, import / export control and logistics working collaboratively with the integrated design team and trials team to assess and inform design evolution and trial configuration to produce performance predictions.

What we’re looking for from you
  • Confident working independently and as part of a multi-discipline team with an appreciation of cultural differences
  • Self‑motivated and adaptable individual driven to deliver
  • Good communicator able to present technical and non‑technical work to a varied customer audience, both verbal and written
  • Creative thinker keen to find innovative solutions to technical and programmatic challenges
  • Passion to lead modelling activities working in a multi‑disciplinary project team taking ownership for concept assessment, performance modelling and support to trial predictions and safety cases
Desirable experience
  • Background in modelling of impact, blast and other non‑linear and dynamic phenomena
  • FEA/CFD/numerical codes (examples could include ANSYS, Altair, IMPETUS AFEA)
  • Windchill, Matlab/Python and High‑Performance Computing
  • Software development to support modelling studies and work package management
  • Energetic materials, explosives testing, design and manufacture and / or systems engineering

Degree level qualification in a subject such as engineering or physics (other relevant subjects considered)
