Job Summary
To support growth, Fleet Services by Cox Automotive is hiring a Mobile Trailer Technician I for an on-site role. This position does not include emergency roadside repairs. The Technician will perform DOT inspections, preventative maintenance, light repairs, and other duties such as working on aluminum and chem-lite, trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, and brake chambers at customer sites. The role involves assisting more experienced technicians and learning advanced mechanical skills and diagnostics.
Responsibilities
- Follow all safety practices and procedures.
- Manage parts inventory and equipment on the service truck.
- Maintain and operate the service vehicle, including safety and pre-/post-trip inspections.
- Apply technical knowledge to perform job duties and evaluate technical information.
- Communicate effectively with clients and team members, assessing needs and resolving issues.
- Prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
- Maintain integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance, DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs.
- Respond to dispatched service requests.
- Use hand tools, welding equipment, and other tools as needed.
- Document work performed accurately using company devices and applications.
- Complete DOT and other documentation promptly.
- Work independently and manage daily schedule efficiently.
- Maintain productivity within standard repair times.
- Procure parts from approved vendors.
- Communicate with management regarding repair estimates and findings.
- Ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental policies, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
- Participate in safety training.
- Build and maintain good relationships with customers and vendors.
- Maintain the service truck and perform minor trailer repairs.
- Adhere to company policies and stay updated on safety protocols.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED and up to 2 years’ related experience.
- Own a set of hand tools necessary for the job.
- Obtain ASE T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months.
- Obtain 608/609 certifications within 18 months.
- Pass a DOT-regulated background check and physical.
- Possess a valid DOT medical card or be eligible for one.
- Be at least 21 years old and hold a valid driver’s license.
