Job summary

Unity Schools Partnership in Felixstowe is seeking a capable pastoral support worker to help manage behaviours, support restoration and reintegration, and build trusted relationships with students and families.

You will work on a part‑time, permanent contract, providing on‑call support during lessons and contributing to a safe, inclusive school environment. Training, development and a supportive team are offered.

Qualifications

• Experience working with young people and supporting behaviour management.
• Ability to respond calmly and use de‑escalation techniques in difficult situations.
• Strong communication with students, families and staff while maintaining professional boundaries.
• Able to work as part of a team and build constructive relationships with partner agencies.
• Experience in a school, youth service, care or community safety setting is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Provide responsive On Call support during lessons and help staff manage behaviour incidents.
• Encourage punctuality and monitor absences, recording concerns as needed.
• Supervise students in restorative and reintegration work.
• Use de-escalation strategies to promote safety for students, staff and visitors.
• Build constructive relationships with students, families and carers and keep them informed.
• Maintain confidential records and communicate with colleagues and external agencies.
• Contribute to break, lunchtime duties, trips and wider school activities.

Job description

Contract: Part-time, Permanent - 37 hours per week/ 40 weeks per year

What you will do

• Provide responsive “On Call” support during lessons and help staff manage behaviour incidents.
• Encourage students to arrive at lessons on time and record, monitor and report concerns relating to lateness or absence from lessons.
• Supervise students in the Restoration Room and support restorative, mentoring and reintegration work.
• Use de-escalation strategies and sound judgement to promote the safety of students, staff and visitors.
• Build constructive relationships with students, families and carers, keeping them appropriately informed and involved.
• Maintain accurate, confidential records and communicate effectively with colleagues and external agencies.
• Contribute to break and lunchtime duties, site security, school trips and wider school activities.

What we are looking for

• Above all, you will be someone young people can trust and colleagues can rely on.
• You will have experience of working successfully with young people and the confidence to respond to challenging behaviour without losing sight of the person behind it.
• You will communicate clearly, remain composed when situations are difficult and combine warmth and empathy with consistent professional boundaries.
• You will be comfortable taking initiative, working as part of a team and building constructive relationships with families and partner agencies.
• You may already work in a school, youth service, alternative provision, care, community safety or another setting where relationships, sound judgement and calm decision-making matter.
• You do not need to be a teacher.
• You do need to believe that young people can change, that high expectations and strong relationships belong together, and that the right adult at the right moment can make all the difference.
