Job summary

Colas Rail UK is recruiting a Mobile Maintenance Train (MMT) Fitter to join our UK-wide fleet maintenance team. You will keep trains safe, reliable and fit for service through planned maintenance, inspections and fault finding, with full rail training provided.

The role involves working a five-week, 40-hour roster across days, nights, and weekends, with travel between depots as needed. Full training, company van and tools are provided, along with generous leave and benefits.

Qualifications

• Level 3 qualification in a mechanical or engineering discipline.
• Must live within an hour commute of Retford.
• Able to work weekends, bank holidays and a mixture of days and nights as part of a shift-based roster.
• Hold a level 3 qualification in a mechanical or engineering background.
• Computer literate (Microsoft Windows).
• DBS screening, medical check and fitness to work as part of onboarding.

Responsibilities

• Follow maintenance schedules to ensure fleet reliability and compliance.
• Conduct preventative servicing, inspections and mechanical repairs.
• Diagnose and rectify faults on diesel engines, hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical drive systems; basic electrical fault finding.
• Prepare trains for overnight operation; provide on train engineering support as required.
• Complete depot-based servicing and accurate maintenance records.
• Use onboard diagnostics and IT systems (Windows-based).
