Job summary

Thalia Waste Management is seeking a Mobile Plant Operator to move waste around a large site in Waterbeach, Cambridgeshire. You will operate dumper trucks, forklifts, telehandlers, and front-loading shovels, with training provided where needed.

The role requires flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment, with a standard Mon-Fri 7am-5pm shift and potential overtime during peak seasons. 24 days holiday plus the option to buy up to 5 extra days.

Qualifications

• Experience of mobile plant; training will be provided.

Responsibilities

• Report health and safety hazards or incidents to Shift Supervisor/Lead Supervisor.
• Operate mobile plant machinery (dumper truck, forklift, telehandler, front-loading shovel, 360 excavator) and perform first-line maintenance.
• Marshal vehicles and control tipping hall operations.
• Maintain clean working conditions in fuel reception, tipping hall, and delivery routes.
• Ensure constant availability of waste to be processed.
• Carry out waste inspections and report non-conforming waste.
• Load collection vehicles and support static plant operations.

Job description

We are seeking a dedicated Mobile Plant Operator to join our team in Waterbeach, Cambridgeshire. The primary role will be to move waste around our large site, transporting unprocessed or non-recyclable waste to the landfill. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for operating mobile plant machinery, including dumper trucks, forklift trucks, telehandlers, and front-loading shovels.

This role requires a flexible approach to work and an ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.

• Shifts - Monday to Friday 7am - 5pm
• Overtime - Opportunity for overtime (especially during peak seasons)
• Holidays - 24 days annual leave + option to buy up to 5 extra days of leave

Main Responsibilities

• Reporting any health and safety hazards or incidents to the Shift Supervisor / Lead Supervisor
• Operating mobile plant, including dumper truck, forklift truck, telehandler, front-loading shovel, and 360 excavator, as well as performing first-line maintenance
• Vehicle marshalling / controlling the tipping hall operation
• Maintaining clean working conditions in the fuel reception area, tipping hall, and delivery routes
• Ensuring the constant availability of waste to be processed
• Carrying out waste inspections and reporting non-conforming waste
• Loading collection vehicles and static plant

Skills And Experience

• Experience of mobile plant (dumper truck, front loader, telehandler, FLT) – desired but not essential as we will provide training
• A strong teamwork ethic
• A flexible approach to working
• An ability to work in a changing, fast-paced environment
• Experience in an industry such as waste management, quarrying, cement works, construction, or steel would be advantageous
