Job summary

J. Dickinson & Sons is expanding our team of machine drivers in Horwich. We are seeking experienced operators who can safely run loading shovels and material handlers, following training and site rules.

You will load waste streams, carry out daily checks, maintain machines, and help with sorting and housekeeping in the yard. The role offers a generous annual salary from £33,345 DOE and a Monday to Friday shift with some Saturday work.

Qualifications

• Experience operating a loading shovel and material handler; willing to train on other machines.
• Mobile plant operator card or basic training desirable.
• Waste industry experience advantageous.
• Basic health and safety knowledge in industrial/processing settings.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume operation.
• Proactive with problem-solving ability.

Responsibilities

• Operate a range of mobile plant machinery as trained.
• Complete daily work schedule.
• Perform daily checks and basic maintenance on machines.

Job description

We are growing our team of machine drivers! We need experienced operators with experience operating mobile plant machinery, including loading shovels and material handler.

The role

• operating a range of mobile plant machinery as instructed and in line with training
• completing daily assigned work schedule
• carrying out daily recorded checks and basic maintenance on the machines to keep in good working order
• loading various waste streams and grades in correct bays and processing areas to maximise recycling and recovery
• checking incoming loads to ensure compliance with site licence and permitted waste types
• assisting in the collection and sorting of materials where required to maintain general housekeeping in the yard

What You Need

• experience and competence operating a loading shovel and material handler and willingness to train on other machines
• mobile plant operator card or certificate of basic training is desirable
• previous experience working in the waste industry would be advantageous
• basic knowledge of health and safety requirements in an industrial/processing setting
• excellent communication skills
• ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume operation
• Ability to work proactively and problem solve

The package

• From £33,345 per annum DOE
• 47.5 hours, Monday to Friday 7.00am-5.30pm
• 1 in 2 Saturdays, 7.00am-12.00pm (paid as extra)
