Job summary

Forestry England in Santon Downham, Thetford Forest, near Brandon, is seeking a permanent Mechanic - Mechanical Engineering Field Service Engineer to maintain and repair vehicles and forestry gear. The role combines workshop-based work with mobile service across the East region, with occasional travel and overtime considerations.

The salary is £30,105 per annum, with 37 hours per week, and a Civil Service pension.

Qualifications

• Experience maintaining and repairing vehicles and forestry equipment.
• Welding and fabrication skills.
• Ability to work in a workshop and mobile setting.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair vehicles and specialist forestry equipment to maximise fleet availability and reliability.
• Carry out inspections, servicing, repairs, welding and fabrication, and recovery work at worksites and other locations as required.
• Support frontline operations; work in a workshop and in the field from Santon Downham Workshop.
