This opportunity is with Sowga – a specialist division of the Pareto Group.
As a maintenance operative, you will undertake both planned and reactive maintenance to support the contract, ensuring clients' assets are maintained safely, efficiently, and functionally.
You should be well-organized, able to work to timescales, respond to emergencies, and collaborate effectively with team members and independently.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Maintain and repair clients' mechanical & electrical systems and components.
- Monitor and review subcontractor performance during site visits.
- Ensure a safe and healthy workplace.
- Complete simPRO / instruction sets with annotations and photographs upon maintenance completion.
- Keep logbooks for electrical, mechanical, and water systems, ensuring safety and compliance documentation is current.
- Report issues preventing statutory planned maintenance to supervisors.
- Maintain comfortable environmental conditions via HVAC systems.
- Perform reactive repairs, fault finding, and respond to BMS alarms, using diagnostics systems.
- Identify and report potential hazards during maintenance tasks.
- Operate and understand all plant and services, including startup, shutdown, fault finding, and emergency procedures.
Additional Duties
- Conduct regular walk-arounds to ensure cleanliness, safety, and operational standards.
- Communicate effectively with clients and end users.
- Carry out small repairs, installations, and maintenance tasks as directed.
- Maintain health & safety, compliance, and quality assurance records.
- Develop good team relationships and keep supervisors informed of progress.
- Communicate maintenance activities and their impact to relevant stakeholders.
- Share skills and knowledge to promote safe operations.
- Immediately report hazards or safety concerns.
- Isolate and secure pressure systems when necessary.
- Participate in out-of-hours on-call rotas and work overtime as needed.
- Perform other duties as required by management.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- City & Guilds Level II/III or equivalent in Electrical discipline (essential).
- 18th Edition I.E.E. (essential).
- City & Guilds BS 2391 Level 3 Electrical Inspection & Testing (desirable).
- IOSH Working Safely (desirable).
- PASMA and IPAF 1b/3a/3b (essential).
- Strong understanding of Electricity at Work regulations and safe practices.
- Knowledge of BMS, generator controls, lighting systems, ACOPS L8 (desirable).
- Valid certificates for high-voltage systems (desirable).
- Experience with maintenance, testing, and fault finding on various equipment, including boilers, pumps, generators, switchgear, cables, batteries, and lighting.
