Job summary

North Yorkshire Council is seeking a Maintenance Operative to join the Housing Standards Team in Harrogate. You will carry out essential repairs and maintenance on social housing stock, ensuring Decent Homes standards are met and compliance is maintained.

The role is a customer‑facing, mobile position. You will work autonomously using mobile tools, complete day‑to‑day repairs in tenanted properties, and participate in an out‑of‑hours standby rota.

Qualifications

• Experience in housing repairs and maintenance in residential properties.
• Strong awareness of Health & Safety practices and Building Regulations.
• Ability to communicate clearly with residents and team members.
• Comfortable using mobile tools and following work instructions on site.

Responsibilities

• Carry out housing repairs relevant to your trade in tenanted properties.
• Record and monitor equipment and materials used.
• Work to Health & Safety standards and safe systems of work.
• Participate in out-of-hours standby rota.
