Job description

Purpose of Job

To ensure all environmental conditions are maintained at all times concerning critical building systems. To carry out PPM tasks and reactive/breakdown works on all M&E systems within the site. Engineers must demonstrate relevant knowledge of Air conditioning, UPS, Generators, LV systems, including fault-finding using graphical information and current alarm data.

Key Responsibilities

1. Carry out routine PPM on all mechanical & electrical plant as per site schedules and asset lists.
2. Complete reactive tasks throughout the building and proactively identify areas for improvement, including stores and fabric-related issues.
3. Manage sub-contractors to meet contract requirements, including approvals and safe operations during repairs or services.
4. Operate a Permit to Work System aligned with BGIS Quality, Health & Safety procedures and client requirements.
5. Quickly address plant faults and defects to keep equipment operational.
6. Maintain availability of spare parts, providing parts lists and time estimates for remedial works.
7. Complete all paperwork related to reactive and breakdown works promptly for contract administration.
8. Prepare and utilize Method Statements and Risk Assessments for all tasks to ensure safety.
9. Build good working relationships with BGIS staff, subcontractors, and client representatives.
10. Maintain a safe and healthy working environment, including wearing PPE and uniforms.
11. Present a professional image of BGIS to clients.
12. Keep plant rooms secure and tidy at all times.
13. Supervise and monitor subcontractor work on-site.
14. Complete assigned tasks appropriately and in accordance with H&S standards.
15. Ensure compliance with contractual KPIs/SLA’s.
16. Keep the Computer Based Maintenance system (e.g., Maximo) updated and accurate.
17. Operate Permit to Work System as per procedures.
18. Perform any other tasks assigned by site management.
19. Ensure the engineering team produces near-miss reports, risk assessments, and site activity records, escalating non-compliance.
20. Proactively check the operation of the LOTO system in line with safety procedures.
21. Monitor building environmental conditions via BMS to maintain acceptable internal conditions.
