Job summary

The Inside Job is hiring a Mobile Automation Engineer to join our Quality Engineering team in a hybrid setup. You will own and scale automated tests for iOS and Android apps, focusing on building a robust automation framework with Appium and Java.

You'll collaborate with mobile developers and QE to define test coverage, investigate flaky tests, and drive improvements across the release pipeline. A hands-on mid-level role with opportunities to shape automation direction and practices.

Qualifications

• Experience automating native mobile apps (iOS and/or Android).
• Hands-on experience building/maintaining mobile automation frameworks with Appium.
• Strong Java programming skills and OOP concepts.
• Experience with BDD frameworks (e.g. Cucumber).
• Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (e.g. Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Bitrise, CircleCI).
• Understanding of mobile app architecture and testing on real devices vs emulators.
• Methodical, quality-first mindset with attention to edge cases.
• Good communication across engineering, QE, and product teams.

Job description

We're looking for a Mobile Automation Engineer to join our Quality Engineering (QE) team, helping us build and scale automated testing for our iOS and Android apps. You'll add to and maintain the automation framework that catch issues before stakeholders ever see them, working closely with mobile developers, fellow automation engineers, and product teams to keep our releases fast and dependable.

This is a hands‑on, mid‑level role: you'll take ownership of automation suites and specific quality areas within mobile, while collaborating with senior engineers on framework direction and best practice.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:

• Adding and maintaining automated tests for our iOS and Android apps in Java using Appium.
• Integrate mobile automation into CI/CD pipelines to support fast, reliable, and frequent releases.
• Collaborate with mobile developers and QE engineers to define test strategy and identify areas for automation coverage.
• Investigate test failures, distinguishing genuine defects from flaky tests, and drive fixes to improve suite reliability.
• Contribute to code reviews, share automation best practice, and help raise the overall quality bar across the mobile team.
• Report on test coverage and quality metrics to stakeholders across engineering and product.
• Explore and adopt AI and agentic tooling to speed up test creation, triage failures, and improve automation coverage.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

• Experience in test automation, with meaningful hands‑on experience automating native mobile applications (iOS and/or Android).
• Practical experience building and maintaining mobile automation frameworks with Appium.
• Solid programming skills in Java, object orientated programming.
• Experience with BDD frameworks (e.g. Cucumber).
• Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (e.g. Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Bitrise, CircleCI).
• Understanding of mobile app architecture and the unique challenges of testing on real devices vs. emulators/simulators.
• A methodical, quality‑first mindset with strong attention to detail and a knack for spotting edge cases.
• Good communication skills and comfort collaborating across engineering, QE, and product functions.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with performance or accessibility testing on mobile.
• Familiarity with API testing tools (e.g. Postman, RestAssured).
• Exposure to other cloud device farms (e.g. Sauce Labs, AWS Device Farm, Firebase Test Lab).
• Experience working in an e‑commerce or consumer app environment.
• Curiosity about, or hands‑on experience with, AI‑assisted or agentic testing tools.
