Job summary

Targeted Provision Ltd is recruiting experienced SEND tutors in County Durham for one-to-one tuition with children and young people who have fallen out of mainstream education. You will work on their terms, with flexible, session-based arrangements and remote planning from home.

Sessions are typically 1-2 hours in English, Maths, or Science, with home, school, or community settings. A DBS and two references are required; you’ll be self-employed, not an employee.

Qualifications

• 2+ years' teaching or tutoring experience with SEND or SEMH needs.
• QTS or QTLS or equivalent specialist teaching qualification.
• Confident in teaching English, Maths, or Science at KS1–KS5.
• Enhanced DBS and two professional references.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 tutoring in English, Maths or Science for 4–18-year-olds.
• Deliver sessions typically 1–2 hours, mainly in-home, school, or community settings.
• Support learners with SEMH/ASD/MLD/SLD and other SEND needs.
• Submit per-session reports using provided templates.

Job description

You'll work with vulnerable young people, one at a time, on their terms - none of the teaching-at-scale trade-off, less admin, just one person and the part of teaching you care about. We're recruiting experienced SEND tutors in County Durham, £28 - £35 per hour, for one-to-one tuition with children and young people who've fallen out of mainstream education, or never been properly served by it.

Day to day

• One-to-one tuition in English, Maths, or Science to children aged 4-18, referred by Local Authorities and schools.
• Sessions typically 1-2 hours, in-person - often in the home, sometimes in school or a community setting, occasionally hybrid, usually within school hours.
• Most learners have SEMH, ADHD, ASC, MLD, SLD, or other SEND needs; many are out of school or at risk of being so.
• Per-session reports supported by templates and your SEND Support Specialist.

You'll need

• Experience: 2+ years' teaching or tutoring, including substantial hands-on work with SEMH, ADHD, ASC, MLD, SLD, or other SEND needs.
• Qualification: QTS or QTLS, or an equivalent specialist teaching qualification.
• Subjects: Confidence teaching English, Maths, or Science at one or more Key Stages.
• Safeguarding: It is a strict requirement that you have the ability to work in a way that promotes the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.
• Compliance: Enhanced DBS (we can help arrange this) and two professional references.
• Right to work: UK-based with right to work in the UK.
