Affirm, Inc. seeks a Machine Learning Engineering Manager for Checkout. Lead an ML engineering team powering credit lending decisions across Europe and Australia. You will partner with product, risk, and engineering leaders to design, implement, and scale advanced ML solutions that drive critical capabilities.

You will mentor engineers, navigate ambiguity, and shape a long-term ML strategy in a remote-first UK role with international impact.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in a technical field with 8+ years industry experience, including 3+ years managing engineers.
• Background in financial services, specifically in credit / lending.
• Proficiency in machine learning with tree-based models, transformers, deep learning, and agentic ML.
• Strong engineering skills and ability to provide hands-on technical leadership while working with code and architecture.
• Thrives in ambiguity and understands moving from low-level language idioms to large system architecture.

Responsibilities

• Set the technical strategy for the ML team and align it with underwriting system projects.
• Advocate technical solutions and operational processes as a force multiplier.
• Collaborate across product management, design, analytics, and risk to ensure sustainability and trade-offs.
• Develop talent through feedback, guidance, and leading by example.
