Affirm, Inc. is seeking a Manager of Machine Learning Engineering for Checkout to lead a team of ML engineers supporting credit lending decisions across Europe and Australia. This remote UK role emphasizes technical strategy, collaboration with product and risk, and scalable ML solutions.

You will mentor engineers, drive architecture decisions, and shape the future of ML at Affirm with an emphasis on ambiguity tolerance and hands-on leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in a technical field with 8+ years of industry experience, including 3+ years managing engineers.
• Background in financial services, specifically in credit / lending.
• Proficiency in machine learning with experience in tree-based models, transformers, deep learning, and agentic ML.
• Strong engineering skills and the ability to provide hands-on technical leadership while working with code and system architecture.
• Thrives in ambiguity and can navigate from low-level language idioms to large system designs.

Responsibilities

• Set the technical strategy for your team and align it with critical underwriting projects.
• Act as a force multiplier by defining and advocating technical solutions and processes.
• Collaborate across product, analytics, risk, and design to ensure sustainability and understood trade-offs.
