Job summary

Roche is hiring a Machine Learning Engineer in Welwyn to unlock scientific data and accelerate life-changing treatments. The role collaborates with scientists, ML experts and DevOps engineers to bring AI tools into drug discovery. Onsite three days per week, you will build data systems and deploy end-to-end ML features.

You will work across the ML lifecycle, optimize GPUs, and contribute to cloud-native architecture while mentoring peers and driving rigorous engineering practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's, Master's or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field, and proven experience in machine learning engineering.
• Experience across the ML lifecycle from GPU optimization and model performance to backend systems and cloud-native architecture (Kubernetes, AWS).
• Strong collaboration, code reviews, and architectural decisions as spaces for shared growth.
• Continuous learner and excellent communicator.

Responsibilities

• You build tools to evaluate AI/ML model performance.
• You partner with product managers and scientists to understand user needs, shape requirements, and translate them into actionable technical specifications.
• You develop and maintain data systems for collecting, structuring, and storing diverse scientific data.
• You implement, adopt, and evaluate new AI/ML algorithms and analytical techniques.
• You own features end to end—from initial model evaluation through to production deployment.
• You shape how we build by contributing to architectural decisions and development processes.
• You span the stack and stay curious about emerging technologies and industry best practices.
