Job summary

CNC Recruitment South West Ltd is recruiting a Sawmill Operative / Timber Machinist for a well-established timber manufacturer in the South Petherton area. You will operate timber machining equipment to process timber to customer specifications and help maximise efficiency and minimise waste.

The role requires practical, hardworking individuals with experience in timber machining or sawmill environments; forklift experience is a plus but not essential.

Qualifications

• Basic education with Maths. Reading and interpreting work orders.
• Experience with timber machining or sawmill operations preferred.
• A woodworking or timber machining qualification is advantageous.
• Forklift licence is desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Select timber for customer orders.
• Operate sawmill and woodworking machinery safely and efficiently.
• Cut, saw and machine timber to required specifications.
• Maximise yield from timber and minimise waste.
• Accurately record production information on paperwork and company systems.
• Stack, band, label and prepare completed orders for dispatch.
• Carry out quality checks to ensure products meet customer requirements.
• Maintain a clean, safe and organised working area.
• Support other production and sawmill activities as required.
• Follow all Health & Safety procedures and company policies.

CNC Recruitment is working with a well-established timber manufacturing business in South Petherton to recruit a Sawmill Operative / Timber Machinist.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in timber machining or sawmill operations to join a friendly and skilled production team. You'll be responsible for operating a range of woodworking machinery, producing high-quality timber products to customer specifications while maintaining a safe and efficient working environment.

The Role

Working as part of a production team, you'll operate timber machining equipment to process and prepare timber products, ensuring customer orders are completed accurately, safely and on time.

You'll take pride in producing quality workmanship while helping to maximise efficiency and minimise waste throughout the production process.

Key Responsibilities

• Select suitable timber for customer orders.
• Operate sawmill and woodworking machinery safely and efficiently.

Performance Measures

Success in this role will be measured through:

• Production output (linear metres produced per hour/day).
• Timber yield and waste reduction.

• Housekeeping and work area standards.

What We're Looking For

• Previous experience working within a timber sawmill, woodworking or timber machining environment is preferred.
• Experience operating woodworking or sawmill machinery.
• A qualification or certification in woodworking or timber machining is advantageous.
• Forklift licence is desirable but not essential.

• Strong practical and problem-solving skills.
