Job description

We are seeking highly motivated and dynamic student midwives, due to qualify in 2025 or early 2026, to join our team who are passionate about delivering high-quality care and achieving the best patient experience.

There are opportunities to support all areas within our maternity services. The innovative Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital (NSECH) has a Birthing Centre, a mixed antenatal/postnatal inpatient ward, and a 24-hour Pregnancy Assessment Unit. The Birthing Centre offers women midwifery care with state-of-the-art facilities, including waterbirth pools, alongside women requiring joint Obstetric care. We also have three stand-alone midwifery-led units offering continuity pathways of care.

We offer a comprehensive training package, strong links with local universities, and pride ourselves on our excellent preceptorship program for newly qualified midwives.

This post falls within the provisions of Agenda for Change Annex 20 - Development of Professional Roles. Upon completing an agreed set of competencies, you may progress to the next pay band without applying for a higher-level post.

As a midwifery professional, successful candidates will be on track to achieve midwifery registration.

You should demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, compassion, flexibility, and a willingness to develop new skills.

Successful candidates are expected to participate in Trust statutory/mandatory training annually.

Please note we reserve the right to close this vacancy early once we have received a sufficient number of suitable applications.

We manage three major hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck, and Hexham, along with smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed. Our state-of-the-art Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital is the first of its kind in England. We also provide home care and community services, giving people choice and control over their care while avoiding unnecessary hospital admissions. Our commitment to high-quality patient care and excellent patient and staff experiences is central to our work.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Assuming responsibility for the management of a ward/unit/caseload, including assessing care needs and implementing evidence-based care programs.
  2. Exercising accountability as per the NMC Midwives Rules and Standards.
  3. Maintaining high clinical standards and midwifery care standards.
  4. Participating in on-call hospital/community rotas.
  5. Role modeling compassionate and inclusive behavior to foster a positive organizational culture, engaging, enabling, and empowering others, promoting ownership of learning and quality improvement, and facilitating teamwork across departments and boundaries.

This advert closes on Thursday, 1 May 2025.
