Job description

Vacancy at Northumbria Healthcare - NHCT

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking highly motivated and dynamic registered midwives to join our team. We are looking for professionals passionate about delivering high-quality care and ensuring the best patient experience.

Opportunities are available across all areas within our maternity services, including acute services and community settings in North Tyneside and South East Northumberland. Our facilities include:

  • The Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital (NSECH), which features a Birthing Centre, mixed antenatal/postnatal inpatient ward, and a 24-hour Pregnancy Assessment Unit.
  • The Birthing Centre offers low-risk midwifery care with state-of-the-art facilities, including waterbirth pools, alongside obstetric care for women with associated risk factors.

Requirements include:

  1. Valid registration/revalidation as part of the Midwifery profession.
  2. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, compassion, flexibility, and a willingness to develop new skills.
  3. Participation in Trust statutory/mandatory training annually.

Our trust manages three major hospitals in North Tyneside, Wansbeck, and Hexham, as well as smaller community hospitals and clinics, and the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital—the first of its kind in England. We also provide home care and community services, supporting patients to live independently and avoid unnecessary hospital admissions. Our commitment to high-quality patient care is reflected in one of the most extensive patient experience programs in England.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Managing a ward/unit/caseload, including assessing care needs and implementing evidence-based care programs.
  2. Supervising, supporting, and educating junior team members.
  3. Maintaining accountability according to the NMC Midwives Rules and Standards.
  4. Ensuring high clinical standards and midwifery care standards.
  5. Participating in on-call hospital and community rotas.
  6. Modeling compassionate and inclusive leadership to foster a culture of collective leadership within the trust.
