Job summary

St Michael's CE Middle School in Dorset is seeking a dedicated Midday Supervisor to join our team. The role is part-time, 6.25 hours per week, 38 weeks per year, during the midday break 12:00–14:15, Monday to Friday.

Salary is £3,626 per annum (Grade 1), temporary until 31 August 2027 with a provisional start date in October 2026. You will help maintain a safe, calm environment, assist with meals and first aid, and promote pupil welfare in line with safeguarding policies.

Qualifications

• Experience of following procedures and processes.
• Previous experience in a school would be desirable.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Able to establish positive expectations of pupil behaviour.
• Sensitivity to pupils’ personal needs.
• Be organised, methodical and a clear communicator.
• Fluency in English for all student and public-facing roles.

Responsibilities

• Supervise pupils in designated areas during the midday break and ensure safety, welfare and conduct.
• Establish safe behaviour by effective intervention or referral to senior staff.
• Supervise movement of pupils to/from dining areas and assist with personal hygiene needs.
• Maintain good order in dining areas.
• Assist pupils with collection of food and return of trays to the service counter.
• Assist with proper use of cutlery, drinking facilities, and midday meal handling.
• Assist in clearing spillages and cleaning/ resetting tables as needed.
• Assist in setting up/removal of furniture as required.
• Attend to illness or accidents and summon assistance as needed.
• Report unauthorised visitors on school premises.
• Complete documentation related to incidents in lunchtime period and participate in reviews.
• Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people per safeguarding policy.
