Allanson Street Primary School in Parr, St Helens, is seeking three midday supervisors to join our lunchtime Play Team. The role is 1.5 hours per day, Monday to Friday, supporting safe play and a positive dining experience for children aged 4 to 11.

Responsibilities

  • Cover lunchtime tasks daily, including outdoor and dining hall activities.
  • Work with the play coordinator to provide age-appropriate play opportunities.
  • Facilitate play and act as an ambassador for play.
  • Assess play areas for risks and implement changes.
  • Help set up and clear away play equipment.
  • Record incidents and report site issues or first aid needs.
  • Assist with first aid when trained and report accordingly.
  • Support children at lunch, including queuing, seating, and opening packets.
  • Provide care and advice during lunchtime.
  • Contribute ideas to improve team practices.
  • Promote safeguarding and welfare in line with policies.
  • Attend team meetings and training for development.

The Headteacher and Governors of Allanson Street Primary School, a warm, friendly, thriving and dynamic two-form entry school in the heart of Parr, St.Helens are seeking to appoint three enthusiastic, conscientious and caring people as Midday Supervisors to join our lunchtime “Play Team”. The hours are 1.5 per day Monday to Friday.

Working as a member of the play team, you will ensure that all our children have meaningful lunchtime play every day. You will work as a member of the play team to create a safe and stimulating outdoor environment providing social, active and creative play experiences for all. The play team is also responsible for ensuring that all our children have a pleasant, safe eating experience at lunch time, whilst maximising the time they can spend outside playing.

The role involves:

  • Working as part of the play team to cover all lunchtime tasks daily. This will include sessions outside, and in the dining hall (and indoors when the weather is very poor).
  • Working with the play coordinator to ensure all children have access to exciting age-appropriate play opportunities every lunch time.
  • Facilitate play opportunities and act as an ambassador for play.
  • Assess play areas for risks daily and communicate/implement any changes required.
  • Assist with putting out and packing away of play equipment/kit.
  • Record and report incidents of note that occur during lunchtime – eg site issues, behaviour, first aid.
  • Assist with first aid (once trained) and first aid reporting.
  • Assist children at lunch, eg with queuing, getting seated, opening packets, spillages, disputes, clearing plates / cutlery and encourage good eating, hygiene and social skills.
  • Offer care, support and advice for children during lunchtime.
  • Contribute ideas and suggestions to improve the team practices and performance.
  • Promote and safeguard the safety and welfare of children in accordance with school child protection and behaviour management policies.
  • Support and uphold the school’s values system and school rules and reward pupils with verbal praise for positive attitudes and behaviours.
  • Attend periodic team meetings and/or training for professional development.

  • Show a willingness to try new things and work outside their comfort zone.
