Base pay range

Mircobiology Technician
(Location: Bampton Road, Romford, Essex, United Kingdom)

What you will do:
The role holder will report to the Senior Microbiologist and be responsible for performing microbiological tests in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards, following relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and regulatory requirements. The primary focus will be on sterility testing, environmental monitoring in cleanrooms (Grade A-D) and the subsequent analysis of agar plates used to monitor these environments.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • To perform sterility testing using a state-of-the-art isolator and subsequent data analysis
  • To perform environmental monitoring of a range of manufacturing areas and systems, e.g. in grade A-D cleanrooms, with subsequent analysis of agar plates, data entry and Trend assessment.
  • To perform all microbiological testing procedures as required following microbiological procedures, e.g. bioburden, total viable counts and microbial identification (Vitek)
  • Ensure at all stages compliance to GMP and obeying to regulatory requirements regarding all testing to be performed
  • In the event of non-conformances, to report immediately to the Senior Microbiologist / Microbiology Manager and work with them to investigate and resolve the issue
  • The role holder will ensure that the deadlines are met and that all testing/monitoring meets the agreed specifications to enable product release and meet regulatory requirements
  • To ensure the health & safety and COSHH guidance is adhered to and as required assist in keeping such procedures up to date
  • Contributing to drafting of departmental documentation, e.g. SOPs and monthly reports

About you:
Our ideal candidate will have knowledge of cGMP and experience working in the pharmaceutical or a similar industry, although full training will be provided. The successful candidate will be process driven, with a keen eye for detail and excellent communication skills.

Basic qualifications and skills

  • Educated to A level Microbiology or equivalent
  • Experience with environmental monitoring, endotoxin testing and/or bioburden testing
  • Experience of Microsoft packages (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Knowledge of Microbiology techniques
  • Experience within Manufacturing, Food, Production and Hospital
  • Experience working in a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment (desirable)
  • Knowledge of health and safety standards required in a production environment
  • Good understanding of cGMP within a manufacturing environment (desirable)
