Job summary

Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting a Healthcare Science Assistant (Band 2) for the Microbiology Service in Bromborough, Wirral. Core hours are 09:00–17:30, Mon–Fri, with occasional late shifts and a night shift; weekend work is typically 1 in 4.

You will support Biomedical Scientists, prepare reagents, operate equipment, and perform stock/records duties, plus data entry and general enquiries. Training will be provided; vaccinations may be required for safety.

Qualifications

• NVQ2 or GCSE (Maths, English and a Science subject) or nationally recognised equivalents.
• Methodical and organised with good communication skills.
• Previous laboratory experience is advantageous but not essential; training will be provided.

Responsibilities

• Assist Biomedical Scientists and Healthcare Science Associates with receiving, preparing and examining clinical specimens.
• Prepare reagents and operate laboratory equipment; maintain stock and records.
• Perform general clerical duties including data entry, telephone enquiries and post.
