Job summary

Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a competent Band 3 Biomedical Support Worker for the Microbiology department. The role involves core laboratory duties, handling samples, equipment upkeep, stock control, waste management, and customer-facing duties.

Flexible working options are available, with training provided. The post requires GCSEs in Science, Maths, and English (A–C) or NVQ Level 3 in Pathology, strong communication skills, and the ability to work in a team

Qualifications

• GCSEs in Science, Maths and English (A–C) or equivalent.
• NVQ Level 3 in Pathology or equivalent clinical laboratory experience.
• Good communication skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Analyse and report on blood, swabs, urines, faeces, and other clinical samples in microbiology analyses.
• Receive and process patient samples and perform core laboratory duties.
• Carry out equipment maintenance, stock management, media and supply handling, and waste disposal.
• Answer telephone calls and communicate clearly with laboratory staff and clinicians.
