Job summary

SGS is seeking a Microbiologist II to conduct a range of microbiology analyses and to act as study director, ensuring all work complies with GMP/GLP/ISO and client specifications.

The role includes training incoming staff, participating in SOP/protocol approvals, and maintaining thorough documentation in notebooks and LIMS. Requires a Bachelor's degree in Microbiology and 5+ years in a regulated lab.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in a regulated commercial lab environment.
  • Experience with sterility testing (USP71).
  • Thorough knowledge of scientific principles.
  • Maintains orderly work area.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts analyses of samples according to USP, EP ASTM, AOAC, FDA, EPA, or client procedures.
  • Prepares media and reagents for microbiological analyses.
  • Schedules analyses to meet deadlines and ensure thorough testing.
  • Practices aseptic techniques and lab disinfection per SOPs.
  • Maintains accurate records following SOPs and CGMP.
  • Mentors and trains new microbiologists as needed.
  • Documents activities in accordance with cGMP.

Job description

The Microbiologist II will conduct a variety of specific test methods, and as study director is responsible for conducting all studies both according to applicable standards and regulations (GMP/GLP/ISO) and according to clients' specifications. Microbiologist II also plays a key role within the department by helping to train incoming staff and by participating in the approval process for SOPs/protocols.

  • Prepares media and reagents required for the conduct of microbiological analyses
  • Conducts analyses of samples in accordance with USP, EP ASTM, AOAC, FDA, EPA, or other compendia procedures, procedures supplied by the client, and other non-routine procedures as encountered
  • Schedules analyses so that completion deadlines are met but also so that analyses are thoroughly and thoughtfully conducted
  • Practices aseptic techniques and disinfection per laboratory SOPs
  • Responsible for accurate and timely recordkeeping, diligently following standards for analysis and SOPs
  • Accountable for quality assurance tasks vital to the position, including, but not limited to, lab area monitoring, media qualification, incubator, instrument and equipment calibration, and maintenance and sterilization procedures
  • Access appropriate technical references and document data in notebooks and LIMS
  • Data entry, receiving/returning calls, sending/receiving information, copying of documents, processing assignments
  • Mentor and train new microbiologists as needed
  • Documents activities in accordance with cGMP
  • Maintains orderly work area
  • Bachelors degree in Microbiology or related sciences required;
  • 5+ years of experience in a regulated commercial lab environment.
  • Experience with sterility testing (USP71)
  • Thorough knowledge of scientific principles
