Job summary

Hanningfield Process Systems in Rochford, England is seeking a Metal Polisher to finish stainless steel components to exact finishes. You will polish parts in the workshop and at times at customer sites, following company standards and safety rules.

The role requires hands-on experience with workshop machinery and abrasive tools, along with a keen eye for detail, strong manual dexterity, and the ability to work to tight deadlines while maintaining quality.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in Maths and English is a must.

Responsibilities

• Operate appropriate abrasive tools (rotors, grinders) to polish stainless steel components to the required finish.
• Read engineering drawings and follow specifications to achieve the correct surface finish.
• Use workshop machinery and abrasive tools and maintain a clean, safe work area.
• Ensure quality checks are performed on in-process polished items to meet HP Systems standards.
• Maintain PPE and promote best safety practices in the workshop.

Job description

A Metal Polisher is responsible for polishing stainless steel parts using a variety of techniques, often to various grades and finishes. You will be responsible for polishing high-quality stainless-steel products in accordance with Hanningfield Process Systems’ standards and requirements. This work will primarily be carried out at our workshop, with occasional assignments at customer sites as needed. All components requiring polishing will be requiring polishing to various grades of surface finish all away up to mirror finish. You will also be required to have experience in, and be competent at using, workshop machinery and abrasive tools.

Key Responsibilities

Polishing Techniques and Preparation of Metal

• Operating appropriate abrasive tools (e.g. rotors, grinders) equipment correctly in order to polish stainless steel metal components to clean finish as per customer requirement.
• Ensure there is an in depth understanding of what tools are needed to obtain the required surface finish.
• Operate weld cleaning brush machines and utilise the correct weld removing tools and fluids.
• Experience of fettling, grinding and deburring.
• Rework and/or repair already polished or part polished parts and products according to engineering specification and/or changes.

Engineering Drawings

• Reading engineering drawings, understanding specifications and other written instructions or procedures to accurately polish parts at the correct surface finish required by customers.

Machinery

• Experience in using workshop machinery such as flat bed grinder.
• Willingness to learn and adopt new technologies.

Business Processes

• Regular liaison with Team Leader or in absence with Production Manager to ensure deadlines are met and priorities assigned.

HSQE

• Perform quality work checks for in process polished items to ensure it is up to the standard that Hanningfield Process Systems expect.
• Clean and maintain all equipment and tools; maintain a clean and safe work area.
• Ensure that adequate PPE is worn.
• Promote and enforce a safe working environment by adhering to health and safety regulations and promoting best practices.

Key Qualifications

Knowledge

• Knowledge of different polishing techniques.
• Knowledge of polishing different types of metals including stainless steel.
• Good knowledge of handheld and static mechanical tools used for Polishing.

Skills

• Awareness of ISO 9000 Standard (e.g. work procedures, traceability of materials) and Health and Safety good practice rules in a manufacturing environment. Safety conscious as working with machinery.
• Possess strong attention to detail.
• Possess good manual dexterity.
• Be effective at working to tight deadlines at times.
• Willing to take instruction and be trained to achieve a high standard of welding & fabrication in line with expectations.
• Possess good Literacy and Numeracy skills as well as the ability of understanding of technical drawings.

Experience

• Previous polishing experience is desirable (minimum 1 year) and the ability to grain is desirable. If minimum experience is not met, experience with hand tools is essential.
• Evidence of Polishing to a high standard is essential.
