Are you a Commercial Manager with MEP experience looking for an exciting new opportunity? Do you have previous experience working on healthcare or defence projects? If yes, then Laing O'Rourke has the role for you!

The Opportunities:

Crown House Technologies, the specialist MEP delivery unit of Laing O'Rourke, is currently recruiting a Commercial Manager to join the team across projects based in Brighton, Cambridge, and Surrey.

Through Laing O'Rourke's unique self-delivery model, we provide a single-source solution for some of the world's most recognized organizations in sectors such as healthcare, defense, science & research, residential, commercial, rail, and data centres.

We are involved in projects like Stage 1 of The Royal Sussex County Hospital's ‘3Ts redevelopment' programme, a new 13-storey teaching, trauma & tertiary care hospital with a rooftop helideck.

What will the MEP Commercial Manager role look like?

  1. Manage, supervise, and be responsible for all commercial aspects of a project section, including managing specialist sub-contractors and liaising with clients and project teams.
  2. Provide commercial, contractual, and financial management to ensure project and business profit objectives are met, managing cash flow and margins to maximize performance.
  3. Plan, monitor, and support operations, promoting best practices.
  4. Deliver commercial activities for projects, directing and managing commercial resources during pre-construction and construction phases.
  5. Support the development needs of line reports and the wider commercial team.
  6. Prepare and manage reports such as monthly contract reviews, weekly Business Plan Review (BPR), and monthly management accounts, along with contractual and commercial input into the Project Business Plan.
  7. Draft, manage, and settle subcontracts, and prepare claims.
  8. Manage and report on monthly costs.
  9. Manage trainees, assistant quantity surveyors, and quantity surveyors.
  10. Negotiate with client representatives, sub-contractors, and consultants to achieve project results while maintaining group relationships.
  11. Advise project management on contractual implications and risks.
  12. Assist in establishing the project budget from contract award.
  13. Identify and implement change control processes.
  14. Ensure proper execution of contract documents prior to project start.
  15. Keep management informed of any issues or risks affecting the project.

What skills & experience are we looking for?

  • Essential: MEP experience.
  • Experience leading a commercial team on large, medium, or multiple small projects.
  • Desirable: Experience in healthcare, science & research, data centres, or defence sectors.
  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a relevant discipline.
