Job description

Mental Health Transport Assistant (Maidstone)
  • To support and transport vulnerable service users as part of a team.
  • To be able to attend the office within one hour during on-call shifts.
  • Maintain an Enhanced DBS (organized and paid for during induction).
  • To provide a professional and caring service for all patients whilst in our care.
  • To ensure that patient safety remains paramount at all times and that safe systems of work are adhered to.
  • To support the care of patients during assessments in line with the Mental Health Act.
  • Safe use of company vehicles and equipment, preparing required patient paperwork, and driving to local and national locations.
Main duties of the job

Key Skills:

  • Valid manual driving license for the UK held for at least 1 year.

This is a full-time 40.3 hours per week contract, working on a 4 on 4 off rolling shift pattern, alternating between days and nights.

Due to the nature of the business and client requirements, working hours may change with reasonable notice. Flexibility may be needed due to patient care needs, including potential over-runs or hour reductions based on workload.

The contract pays a blended rate of £13.14 per hour (day, night, and weekend shifts). The annual remuneration starts from £27,580.26, based on expected hours.

  • Over-runs paid at £22 per hour.
  • Enhanced pay of £1.20 extra per hour for work at a mental health place of safety and bed watch activities, supporting ward staff.
  • Shift pay enhancements of an additional £1.75 per hour for some call-in or overtime shifts. Further details will be discussed during the interview process.

Job responsibilities

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Provide a professional and caring service to all patients while ensuring safety and adherence to safe systems of work.
  • Support and transport vulnerable service users as part of a team.
  • Support patient care during assessments at 136 Suites in line with the Mental Health Act.
  • Follow health and safety guidelines according to current policies, procedures, and HSE requirements.
  • Attend the office within one hour during on-call shifts.
  • Use company vehicles and equipment safely and respectfully, maintaining high standards of driving and cleanliness.
  • Apply appropriate lifting and handling techniques when moving patients under non-emergency conditions, using suitable equipment or supports where necessary.
  • Administer first aid as trained and provide social care in non-emergency situations when required.
  • Wear the uniform according to the organisation's workwear policy and display your ID badge at all times while on duty.
  • Adhere to statutory regulations and organisational policies, including GDPR, and report incidents accurately.
  • Participate in staff development, regular reviews, and undertake further training if required.
  • Work in line with organisational values, maintaining professionalism and integrity, respecting equality and diversity.
  • Continuously update knowledge and skills, contribute to setting work objectives, and stay current with policies and procedures.
  • Act as an ambassador for SCUK and adhere to the Code of Conduct.
  • Collaborate as a team, communicate positively and respectfully, and ensure accurate data entry in electronic systems.

Person Specification
Experience
  • Full UK manual driving license with at least 1 year of driving experience.
  • Experience working in the care sector.
