Job description

Mental Health Teaching Assistant (SEMH) - Wolverhampton

Do you want to make a real difference in the lives of young people? A specialist school in Wolverhampton is seeking a caring, committed, and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This is a rewarding opportunity to help students overcome challenges and build the skills they need to succeed in school and beyond.

About the Role:

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you'll be working with children and young people across Key Stages 1 to 4, many of whom have additional needs such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, or other learning difficulties. Your role will involve supporting behaviour, encouraging emotional regulation, and helping pupils engage with learning in a meaningful way.

Each day will bring new challenges and rewards-from guiding pupils through classroom tasks to being a steady, reliable presence when they need it most.

Your Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Providing one-to-one and group support for pupils with SEMH needs
  • Promoting focus, engagement, and positive behaviour in class
  • Assisting students in managing their emotions and social interactions
  • Supporting individual learning plans and pastoral interventions
  • Working alongside teachers, SENCOs, and support staff to deliver tailored strategies

We're Looking For Someone Who:

  • Has experience supporting children with SEMH, ASD, or behavioural needs
  • Is calm, empathetic, and consistent under pressure
  • Understands how to build trust and positive relationships with pupils
  • Ideally holds training such as Team Teach or MAPA, or is willing to undertake it

In Return, You'll Receive:

  • A fulfilling long-term role within a supportive school environment
  • Ongoing guidance from a specialist SEN consultant at Academics
  • Competitive pay and access to our referral rewards
  • The chance to make a genuine difference in young people's lives

If you're ready to take the next step and become a valued SEMH Teaching Assistant in Wolverhampton, we'd love to hear from you.
