Secondary schools across Stockport are seeking empathetic and dedicated Mental Health Teaching Assistants to join their teams from September. These full-time roles are ideal for individuals with a background in psychology, counselling, youth work, or education, who are committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide one-on-one and small group support to students experiencing social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) difficulties.
Assist in the implementation of individualized support plans, including strategies to promote emotional well-being and resilience.
Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to monitor and support students' progress.
Create a safe and nurturing classroom environment that encourages positive behaviour and engagement.
Support students in developing coping strategies, self-esteem, and social skills.
Candidate Requirements:
Experience working with children or young people facing mental health challenges, preferably in an educational setting.
Strong understanding of mental health issues and strategies to support emotional well-being.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with students.
Patience, empathy, and a proactive approach to supporting students' needs.
Relevant qualifications in psychology, counselling, education, or related fields are advantageous.

Start Date: September 2025
Contract: Full academic year, full-time
