Job description

Job Description

Are you a recent Psychology or Criminology Graduate interested in a career in mental health? Do you want to learn therapeutic and restorative practices?

A Specialist School in Reading is seeking a vibrant and friendly graduate to join their team as a Mental Health Support Worker to support pupils with mental health needs.

The students, aged 11 to 18, come from diverse backgrounds and have notable social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs. Many have experienced adverse childhood experiences, trauma, and exhibit anti-social behaviors. They require 1:1 support and guidance to help them regulate their thoughts and process emotions healthily.

This classroom-based role involves collaborating with the class teacher and mental health professionals to engage and support students. You will identify and address potential triggers related to trauma and psychological needs, assist with classwork, and help students meet academic and emotional milestones.

This role offers a valuable platform for graduates seeking to build experience in mental health and wellbeing support. You will learn and apply various therapeutic techniques and put your psychological or criminological knowledge into practical scenarios.

We are looking for a caring, resilient, and patient graduate to join this rewarding yet challenging role.
